Job Summary:
The Credit Officer is responsible for evaluating loan applications, conducting risk assessments, and managing the credit portfolio of the micro-credit institution. The primary goal is to ensure the soundness and profitability of the loan portfolio while promoting financial inclusion in undeserved communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Assessment:
• Evaluate loan applications submitted by individuals and small businesses.
• Conduct thorough credit risk assessments to determine the applicant's ability to repay the loan.
• Verify applicant information and assess the overall financial health of borrowers.
Credit Analysis:
• Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents to determine creditworthiness.
• Assess the applicant's character, capacity, and collateral to mitigate risks.
• Calculate debt ratios, cash flow, and other financial metrics to make informed lending decisions.
Customer Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain positive relationships with clients.
• Provide clear and transparent communication regarding loan terms, conditions, and repayment schedules.
• Offer financial education and guidance to clients to ensure responsible borrowing and repayment practices.
Portfolio Management:
• Monitor and manage the microfinance institution's loan portfolio.
• Identify and address potential risks, including delinquencies and defaults.
• Implement collection strategies and work with clients to find solutions for repayment challenges.
Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Keep abreast of changes in regulations affecting microfinance and adjust lending practices accordingly.
Documentation:
• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete loan documentation.
• Ensure that all necessary paperwork is in order and meets legal and regulatory standards.
Reporting:
• Generate regular reports on the performance of the loan portfolio.
• Provide insights and recommendations for improving lending practices and risk management.
Qualifications:
• Higher National Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Marketing Business Administration, or related field.
• Proven experience as a Credit Officer, Credit Analyst, or similar role in a financial institution
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, credit reports, and credit scoring models.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple assignments effectively.
• Proficiency in using credit evaluation software, financial analysis tools, and MS Office Suite.
• A valid driving license (Category B)
